We get so tired of people telling bloggers and the media to calm down on coverage of travel destinations that may or may not be having an uprising, citing that if we cover the news negatively we’ll help those destinations to lose business, but the trouble is, there is and has been trouble in Bangkok, Thailand for weeks and more.  Sheesh, as if all the recent deaths weren’t proof enough.  And now it looks like hotel closings are on the rise in the city of Bangkok.

The Grand Hyatt and InterContinental hotels have sent travelers packing, telling guests that they would have to leave the hotels for fear of blood at their doors.  Currently The Four Seasons is one of the only large hotels open, but they have closed all of their four restaurants and the lobby remains pretty much empty, minus some shriveled orchids apparently.

On Wednesday tensions escalated between soldiers and anti-government protesters, sending hotels, upscale malls and restaurants to close immediately.  It looks like the standoff between the armed soldiers and the “Red Shirt” protesters will not be a quick and easy fix.

If you were planning on flying into Bangkok or traveling close to the Thai city, it might be best to either cancel the trip altogether or at least stick to the countryside.
