Yesterday US Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation and Security Administration announced that the agency has been unable to assess the security measures at the international airports in Venezuela. The airports in question serve as the last point of departure for non-stop flights to the US, and Venezuela has refused multiple requests to allow for US assessments, which are required by US law.
The agency is now taking action to warn travelers of this security deficiency.
Under Title 49 of the US Code 44907, the Department of Homeland Security is required to assess all security at foreign airports with direct service to the US to ensure compliance with standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Why Venezuela is being uncooperative is currently unclear – but its something to consider if you were contemplating visiting that part of the world this year.

Sounds like politically-motivated scare tactics to me. I’d disregard anything coming from the US Department of Homeland Security.
