Online checkin (OLCI) is something that most of you are probably aware of - but for some reason, lots of people don’t use it. I’m not really sure why that is - perhaps its just because it a newer online offering, or maybe it just seems safer to not…I don’t know, but here’s a travel tip you can take to the bank - ALWAYS use online checkin.

Besides having your boarding pass up to 24 hours in advance, there are numerous benefits to using the service.

For one thing - it tells the airline that you’re coming. You know how flights can sometimes be over booked and passengers can get kicked off of their own flights if they’re running late? That won’t happen if you’ve already checked in online. If you are checked in online they will have to hold your seat until the very last second - giving you more time to get there.

If you’re only taking carry on luggage this makes your entire process simpler. If you do have luggage that you have to check, though, you can still save time. Most airlines have a full checkin and a luggage only checkin area - and the luggage only area is almost always shorter. Less time in line - means more time NOT in line. :)

You’re going to want to save as much time as possible at the airport, and give yourself the maximum amount of time to get where you’re going - especially if you’re not familiar with the airport. The more time you have to get to your flight, the more time you have to get lost and/or pay $10 for a $3 sandwich.
