As Halloween approaches you may be looking for a good scare – and if you’re willing to travel to get it – there are some amazing places here in the U.S.

5. Shocktoberfest – Featuring a Prison of the Dead, a Biohazard Hayride, a haunted nightclub, a 3D adventure, a Warehouse of Horros AND a Monster Midway, there is more stuff to do at Shocktoberfest than almost any other place on our list. It’s located in Reading, Pennsylvania.

4. Bates Motel – Probably the most famous name on the list, the Bates Motel in Philadelphia Pennsylvania features a haunted hayride and and haunted motel that can’t be beat!

3. The Darkness – located in Saint Louis, Missouri the Darkness has been around for 15 years, and even claims to have a REAL GHOST on site!

2. NetherWorld – Based in Atlanta Georgia, Netherworld is open all Halloween long. It’s a been around for 12 years, and has continually been named one of the top haunted houses in the nation.

1. Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Houses is based in Ulster Park, NY – and is over 45 acres of woods, ponds, orchards, and general fright. It’s been rated the #1 Haunted Attraction by American Airlines Magazine, Haunt World Magazine, and many online sites. The attractions include a one mile hayride, a corn maze, 3 haunted houses, 4 concessions, and several gift shops.
