Travel sites like Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz are suffering from some extreme losses in web traffic, as people look to travel less and less during this continuing economic downturn.
Traditionally consumers will start to plan winter getaways in October – making it a huge traffic spike for online booking sites, but this year that didn’t happen.
Traffic to online travel portals dropped 14% year to year due to the spiraling economy and the trouble that many people are having paying the bills – much less going on a trip.
Those that are still able to travel mays soon find discounted rates as companies attempt to draw in any travelers they can get.
Where will this lead us in 2009? Currently that’s unclear, but it doesn’t look great.
