Those of you that are in Beijing for the Olympics this weekend may want to keep your mouths shut while you’re in Taxi cabs. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that every single taxi cab ha s a microphone that can be activated remotely at anytime without the diver’s knowledge for a live listen in on what anyone might be talking about at the time.

If the people listening to what you’re saying decide they don’t like what they hear they have a GPS-equipped device attached to the taxis that allow for remote disabling of the car by cutting off the oil or electric supply. This will not only shut down the engine - but you won’t be able to restart it either.

The police, of course, say that these are installed for the driver’s protection, but take the “no comment” route when asked about the possibility of it being used for the reasons described above.

Just remember, when in China - you’re potentially being monitored at all times. Don’t forget that, and don’t go divulging any international secrets.
