Before you venture off this holiday season, make sure you’ve properly prepared to keep your holiday travel adventures as worry and hassle free as possible.
Here are a few tips to help remind you of things you might leave behind, or undone.
Automatic Timers on your Lights
The small expense of automatic timers on your lights keep your house from looking empty while you’re away. It might not seem like a big deal – but if you come home and find that you’ve been robbed – you’ll wish you’d forked over the cash.
Timers certainly aren’t the same as a burglar alarm, but they go a long way into making your home look lived in when it’s actually not.
Travel Insurance
Oh sure – “nothing’s going to happen” – and you’re probably right. If it does, however, you’ll really wish you had some kind of travel insurance. Sites like squaremouth.com can help you find a good deal, and you’ll probably be surprised at how inexpensive it can be.
Mail Hold
Don’t forget to get your mail held while you’re away. The United States Postal Service actually makes this pretty easy (in fact, it’s one of the only easy things they’ve ever done). You just head over to http://www.usps.com and you can have them holding your mail in just a few clicks.
Money
Yeah this one is obvious – but you have to remember – if you’re planning on visiting a foreign country on your vacation, you’re going to need their currency, and if you get it ahead of time you can avoid hefty processing fees.
Medicine
Don’t forget your meds. If you do, it’s certainly possible to get them, but it can be a terribly complicated process that can ruin your entire getaway. Also remember to take your prescriptions with you if you have something that could be perceived as iffy. Don’t tempt fate here, people, just deal with annoyance factor and move on.

excellent reminders, especially about protecting home when you’re away! We set our lights on timers, but we also have the cat sitter switch things up when she visits. Also, one of the things our town offers is a drop in visit from a police officer to check for anything they might notice as an invitation to burglars. Ours gave us tips on where to put motion detecting lights on the garage, for example. They also told us about this item

for extra protection on outside doors.
