The senior editor of “Travelocity” believes that 2009 will be the “year of travel deals” because the U.S. dollar is increasing in value, gas prices are at their lowest levels in four years, and hotel rates are softening as well. “As long as the economic slowdown continues, deals will abound for people who do have discretionary income to travel.”
Pauline Frommer, the guidebook writer, agreed. “Because of the sharp drop off in bookings, we’re seeing some pretty deep discounts to just about everywhere,” she said, citing as an example Walt Disney World’s offer of seven nights for the price of four. “It’s definitely going to be a buyers’ market next year.”
Right now it costs $1.36 to buy one Euro, that’s a 20% increase from April, and a good sign that things are evening out.
If you’re looking to make travel plans this year – be on the look out for some spectacular deals. The travel industry needs a boost – and they’ll be willing to make deals to get it.
